Service Description
Plaster is the best surface for clay. It's strong and porous. It will absorb moisture out of the clay in a more even manner than any other surface. Making it great for reclaim boards and molds. It can also hold moisture, which is ideal for suspending dampness in damp boxes. Join me in the studio for a hands-on workshop. Mixing, pouring, and learning how to properly make plaster forms for pottery. You bring the container. I've got the plaster. The workshop covers instruction and guidance $25. Plaster is a separate charge/ $10 per gallon of mixed plaster (depends on your size). A Damp box is a great tool to have for extending stages of your clay projects (slows down drying). Things to think about before choosing your damp box container; Consider the inside of the box. The bottom 1-2 inches will be filled with plaster. You want to make sure you have the space inside needed for storing work. Find a container with a good seal around the top/good fitting lid. If you're making a plaster slab/board. You're looking for a container with a flat bottom (without groves so you can use both sides if you'd like) and 90 degree corners for an even slab. Plaster slabs can get heavy, be mindful of the size. Slump or hump molds can be made from found forms (bowls, trays/glass, plastic, ceramic). Or clay forms that you have made (leather/soft consistency). Pouring plaster over or inside of the form to capture its shape. For slump molds you need a form and a container. For hump molds you only need a form. Things you need to bring; A container for a damp box/board/slump mold or A form to pour plaster in for hump molds Clothes that you don't mind getting messy (plaster will typically wash out) A respirator mask- Mixing plaster requires it. I do have some extra if needed. Goggles if you prefer to shield your eyes from plaster dust (I don't). Rubber gloves/ thick dish washer kinds if you prefer to cover your hands (again I don't).
